Can I drink water during Chhath fast?

Traditionally the fast is nirjala (without water) during Kharna to Usha Arghya. Consult elders/health needs.

Is riverbank mandatory?

A clean water body or artificial pond is acceptable when river access is not possible.

The four-day festival includes Nahay Khay, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya, and Usha Arghya. Devotees fast, prepare thekuas and prasad, and offer arghya to the setting and rising Sun on riverbanks.
